Strategies to Mitigate Enteric Methane Emissions in Ruminants: A Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Methane is the main greenhouse gas (GHG) emitted by ruminants. Mitigation strategies are required to alleviate this negative environmental impact while maintaining productivity and ruminants’ health. To date, numerous methane mitigation have been investigated, reported suggested scientists livestock industry. In review, authors will focus on commonly practiced available techniques expanding knowledge of reader advances with a recent literature. Furthermore, attempt discuss drawbacks in terms animal health performance reduction as well concept feed energy loss, adding an economic perspective emission which farmers’ direct interest. As whole, many factors effective reducing undesired production, but definitely complex challenge. Conclusively, further research offer efficient production solutions ruminants worldwide, thus positively contributing climate change.

Animal board invited review: genetic possibilities to reduce enteric methane emissions from ruminants
Measuring and mitigating methane (CH4) emissions from livestock is of increasing importance for the environment and for policy making. Potentially, the most sustainable way of reducing enteric CH4 emission from ruminants is through the estimation of genomic breeding values to facilitate genetic selection. There is potential for adopting genetic selection and in the future genomic selection, for...

Ruminant animals play an important role in the food chain for evaluate cellulose and non-protein nitrogenous (NPN) compounds absorbed partially or not by other farm animals and humans. However, ruminant animals also bring some disadvantages. Methane, produced as a natural consequence of the ruminal digestion and it is a potential green house gas, is a problem, both ecologically and economically...
متن کاملOpportunities and challenges in the use of the Laser Methane Detector to monitor enteric methane emissions from ruminants.
The objective of this review was to examine the application and relative efficiency of the proprietary hand-held Laser Methane Detector (LMD) in livestock production, with a focus on opportunities and challenges in different production systems. The LMD is based on IR absorption spectroscopy, uses a semiconductor laser as a collimated excitation source and uses the second harmonic detection of w...
متن کاملRecent Advances in Measurement and Dietary Mitigation of Enteric Methane Emissions in Ruminants
Methane (CH4) emission, which is mainly produced during normal fermentation of feeds by the rumen microorganisms, represents a major contributor to the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Several enteric CH4 mitigation technologies have been explored recently. A number of new techniques have also been developed and existing techniques have been improved in order to evaluate CH4 mitigation technolog...
متن کاملPrediction of enteric methane emissions from cattle.
Agriculture has a key role in food production worldwide and it is a major component of the gross domestic product of several countries. Livestock production is essential for the generation of high quality protein foods and the delivery of foods in regions where animal products are the main food source. Environmental impacts of livestock production have been examined for decades, but recently em...
